ABB power solutions support one of Shanghai’s largest data centers, used by Tencent and China Telecom.
The 70,000 m2 data center in Shanghai Yueke Big Data Industrial Park has 8,000 electrification cabinets, making it one of the largest in the city.
It provides digital services and complex computing work to large, high-profile customers, including Tencent — the creator of social media and messaging platform WeChat — and China Telecom, the world’s seventh-largest telecoms operator.
The company says the partnership will help keep China’s more than a billion internet users connected while maximizing reliability, stability and uptime, and improving energy efficiency.
China is the world’s largest user of the internet, and users have an ever-growing appetite for data.
The data center industry in China has been growing rapidly, and reliability is a top priority for operators, including those behind the Shanghai Yueke Data Center, where ABB just installed a medium- and low-voltage power distribution solution to keep the data flowing 24/7 .
To ensure the facility can keep data flowing between its customers and its millions of users, the Yueke Data Center was designed to meet China A-Level data center design standards. It has also achieved the ISO 9000 quality mark.
It has been awarded Tier 3 certification for maintenance and operations by the Uptime Institute, but to further improve its credentials and ensure 24/7 availability, the site installed ABB UniGear ZS1 switchgear with Relion protection and control relays.
These ensure that problems in the power grid are identified as early as possible so that problems can be rectified or the effects significantly reduced.
“By adopting ABB’s high-quality electrical products and solutions, the power supply system of Shanghai Yueke Data Center has become safer, greener and smarter, which has greatly improved our competitiveness and service quality,” said Wang Qi, development and sales manager of Shanghai Yueke Technology Co .ltd
To further improve efficiency, ABB Ability Energy Manager was also installed to monitor power quality, operational status and energy consumption in real-time to improve server room power quality.
ABB Ability also brings additional benefits to Yueke data center operators, including improved security and reliability of IT equipment, optimized asset allocation, and helping the data center operate smarter and with less carbon to reduce energy consumption by around 20% reduce.
