DEAG continues its strong business growth in 2022 in the third quarter

  • Nine-month sales increased by 874% compared to the previous year to EUR 235.1 million – EBITDA increased by 52% to EUR 20.3 million

  • Revenue increased by 72% to EUR 101.7 million and EBITDA by 110% to EUR 10.2 million in the third quarter alone compared to 2019

Berlin, November 25, 2022 – In the third quarter, DEAG Deutsche Entertainment Aktiengesellschaft (“DEAG”) continued its very good business development over the course of 2022. Sales and operating results improved massively both year-on-year and compared to the pre-crisis year 2019. Sales increased to EUR 101.7 million in the third quarter. This corresponds to an increase of 72% compared to the same period in 2019 and a six-fold increase compared to the turnover of EUR 16.7 million in the same period of the previous year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, EBITDA, increased significantly to EUR 10.2 million in the third quarter. This corresponds to an increase of 110% compared to the value of 2019 or an increase of 134% compared to an EBITDA of EUR 4.3 million in the same period of the previous year.

Business development in 2022 is also very positive over the nine-month period, with sales increasing to EUR 235.1 million. This corresponds to an increase of 91% compared to the period of 2019 and a multiple compared to the nine-month sales of the previous year of EUR 24.1 million. EBITDA rose to EUR 20.3 million. This corresponds to an increase of 155% compared to the same period in 2019 and a very significant increase compared to the EBITDA of EUR 13.3 million in the previous year.

The main reason for the good development of the key financial figures was the significant revival of the operating business as a result of the lifting of most corona restrictions in DEAG’s national markets. In addition, the companies acquired by DEAG since 2019 have also made a significant contribution to the good first year as a whole. In addition, DEAG’s consistent strategic focus on its own high-margin event formats in recent years, especially in the Family Entertainment segment, as well as the expansion of the group’s own ticketing platforms myticket and Gigantic Tickets for its own and third-party content, through which, among other things, the majority of ticket sales is processed have also paid off. In view of the positive development to date and the strong operational development in the fourth quarter, DEAG confirms its expectations for sales growth to over EUR 300 million with a further improvement in EBITDA for the full year 2022.

DEAG successfully continued its M&A strategy in the reporting period and acquired, among other things, the festival for electronic music “Airbeat One” and the “Classic Open Air am Gendarmenmarkt”, one of the most renowned classical and crossover events in Germany. With these acquisitions, DEAG is significantly expanding its range of events in the areas of rock/pop as well as classic & jazz and expects synergy effects in the live entertainment and ticketing business from the coming year.

DEAG organized numerous events and concerts in the reporting period, including the sold-out open-air events “Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival” in Great Britain and “Sion sous les étoiles” in Switzerland. In Germany, the electronic music festivals “NATURE ONE”, “Ruhr-in-Love” and “MAYDAY” were a complete success and attracted around 100,000 visitors. DEAG currently has a diverse portfolio of events with a total of more than 30 annual one- or multi-day festivals that will attract more than 580,000 visitors in Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland and Ireland.

The current fourth quarter is characterized by the Christmas business with event formats such as the Christmas circuses in Hanover and Regensburg and the Christmas markets in Wuppertal and Kiel. In addition, DEAG has expanded its successful “Christmas Garden” format to 19 locations in the 2022/2023 season, ten of them in Germany and nine in other European countries.

Despite an overall challenging economic environment, the excellent development of the first six months of 2022 continued with high dynamics in the third quarter. We have successfully carried out countless concerts and events and recorded a record summer in ticketing with 3 million tickets sold between June and August alone. We are seeing consistently high demand for tickets to events and concerts. 2022 will be a record year for DEAG. The first quarter of 2023 is already characterized by high visibility. We assume that our dynamic growth will continue beyond 2022,” commented Professor Peter LH Schwenkow, CEO of DEAG.
